🏦 Shopify post-purchase upsell support: which payment processors and gateways are allowed by Shopify

Which payment processors Shopify officially supports for post-purchase upsells and why your upsells may not be showing due to gateway limitations on Shopify’s side - not ReConvert's.

⚠️ Key facts

Only payment processors supported by Shopify will work with post-purchase upsells
ReConvert supports 100% of Shopify’s supported processors
If your processor isn't on the list, and your post purchase upsells are not working with ReConvert -> no upsell app will work with it
Shopify requires card vaulting for post-purchase offers - some gateways do not support this

🔎 How to check your gateway

Go to your Shopify admin
Click Settings → Payments
Note the payment provider listed under “Payment providers”

In this example, the merchant has selected Shopify Payments as the default payment processor offered to customers. Alternative payment processors are Paypal and Clearpay.

🧪 How to test if your processor works

Install ReConvert and place a paid test order (use a 99% discount if needed)
Do not use a free test order - Shopify won’t trigger the post-purchase flow
If no upsell is shown, your payment gateway/processor is likely not supported by Shopify

📋 Full list of Shopify-supported payment processors (July 2025)

Below is a non-exhaustive list of payment processors currently supported by Shopify for post-purchase offers. If it’s not listed, we recommend testing to confirm.

In the example we used above in step 3, we can see that all three of the payment methods are supported by Shopify. The only questionable method is the Paypal method, as this is limited to specific Paypal methods - it would seem that not all are supported by Shopify.

🧠 Good to know

As mentioned above, Shopify may block some gateways even under the same provider (e.g. PayPal via Mollie is not supported)
Gateway compatibility can change - Shopify controls this, not ReConvert
Shopify uses vaulted card payments to allow post-purchase flows - if the payment method used is not a vaulted payment method, post purchase pages will not display
What are vaulted gateways?

If your gateway is supported by Shopify and post-purchase pages still do not display, please check the payment card that was used by the customer - often issues stem from unvaulted cards - see our helpdesk article here for more information

Q: My payment processor isn’t listed. Will it still work?

Unlikely. Test it, but if post-purchase doesn’t appear, it’s not supported by Shopify.

Q: Can ReConvert add support for my gateway?

No. This is entirely controlled by Shopify.

Q: Will this change?

Maybe. Shopify occasionally adds new providers. We'll update this list as they do.
