How to use slots and widgets on ReConvert's Flow Builder? | Shopify

What are slots and widgets?

In this article, you will understand what widgets and slots are, how they work, and how to use them.

First, some definitions:

Slots - these are containers of one or more widgets, placed in a specific location on a store page (for example: below the products in the cart on the checkout page)

Widgets - these are specific elements that can be added to a slot and through that to a page (for example: product upsell, product recommendations, etc)

Next, let's understand the hierarchy:

• Conditions are placed inside pages
• Slots are created inside conditions, each slot represents a specific location on the page
• Widgets are grouped inside slots

Each slot can contain one or more widgets.

You can place a slot on a page through your store pages once, and this will be it's location until you move it. Conditions don't change the slot's location, they only change the widgets inside the slot.

Creating slots and widgets

1. Creating your slot:

To create a slot, click one of the Create a slot buttons:

You are now presented with two categories for creating a slot - i) using a custom slot and either building the widgets within the slot from scratch; or ii) duplicating an existing slot

1. Custom slot

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ * Start from scratch: Start from scratch and build a slot to match your store's unique requirements‎ ‎

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ * Duplicate existing slot: Quickly replicate an existing saved slot

2. Pre-made slots

(Four pre-made template slots: these will insert a slot with the following widgets for quick-start):-

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ * product upsell - this will insert a slot with the product upsell widget nested within

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ * product recommendation - this will insert a slot with the product recommendations widget nested within

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ * bundle - this will insert a slot with the bundle widget nested within and

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ * banner - this will insert a slot with a banner widget nested within

Once your slot is created, the first widget for this slot will be automatically created, and you will be redirected to the ReConvert Editor where you can instantly edit your widget and add further widgets to your slot from within the ReConvert Editor, before saving and navigating back to the Flow Builder page

2. Back on the Flow Builder page, you will see your slot with its widgets created:

3. At this point, if you have not done so already via onboarding, you need to add your slot to the page in the Shopify Editor, by clicking Place your slots in the Shopify editor:

4. You can edit the widgets for this slot, by clicking the widgets card, and then clicking the Edit Widgets button on the actions menu:

This will take you back to the ReConvert Editor to edit your widgets for the slot.

Delete widgets

5. You can delete the widgets attached to this slot by clicking the Delete widgets button on the actions menu:

Once you delete the widgets, your slot will become empty, and you can:-

• continue to the next condition - (If for example your first condition's Slot 1 is empty, ReConvert will check your next applicable condition to see if Slot 1 exists and if it does, it will show those widgets)
• keep the slot empty - (ReConvert will not check further conditions to see if Slot 1 is present, even if it is an active condition)
• add widgets to the slot to 'activate' it; or
• completely delete the slot ( If you delete a slot itself - it will be deleted from all conditions in the page, so exercise caution)
